What are AS and A Levels?

A Qualification Built for University-Level Thinking

AS and A Levels are advanced qualifications typically taken by students aged 16 to 18, equivalent to Grades 11 and 12. Students choose 3 to 4 subjects to study in depth over two years, with the AS Level at the end of Year 1 and the full A Level at the end of Year 2.

The A Level is highly regarded by universities across the UK, US, Canada, and internationally — and is widely considered one of the most rigorous pre-university qualifications available. Universities regularly specify minimum A Level grade requirements for admission to competitive programmes.

At IB Curriculum Academy, we provide AS and A Level tutoring across all major exam boards — Cambridge (CIE), Edexcel, AQA, and OCR — with expert tutors who know exactly what each board's examiners are looking for.

"The A Level rewards depth of understanding above all else. A student who genuinely understands a subject will always outperform one who has simply memorised it."

How We Teach AS & A Levels

Our Approach to A Level Tutoring

Every A Level student at IB Curriculum Academy begins with a thorough assessment so we understand exactly where they are and what they need before a single session begins.

One-to-One Sessions

Fully personalised to the student's specific exam board, syllabus version, and target grade. No generic content.

Small Group (3–4 Students)

For subjects like Economics, Business, and Sciences — where structured peer discussion strengthens analytical thinking.

Online & In-Person

All online sessions are live on Zoom with a digital whiteboard. Not passive. Not pre-recorded. Always interactive.

Board-Specific Teaching

Every session is calibrated to the student's exact exam board — Cambridge, Edexcel, AQA, or OCR. Mark schemes, command words, and examiner expectations vary significantly between boards.

Coursework & Practicals

Full support on internally assessed components — coursework, investigations, and practical write-ups — using the actual mark scheme criteria throughout.

Mock Exams & Feedback

Full-length mock papers under timed conditions, marked to the exact A Level mark scheme, with a dedicated feedback session after each mock.

Exam Technique & Strategy

Command word training, mark allocation strategy, essay structure, and time management — the skills that convert knowledge into high exam scores.

University Entry Alignment

We help students understand exactly what grades specific universities and courses require — and build backwards from that target throughout the two years.

AS to A Level Transition

The jump from AS to A Level is significant. We prepare students for the increase in depth, pace, and exam demands well before Year 2 begins.

Why IB Curriculum Academy for A Levels

What Makes Our A Level Tutoring Work

Our A Level tutors are subject specialists who know their exam board's mark schemes, examiner reports, and assessment patterns in detail. That specific knowledge makes a measurable difference in student outcomes.

0

Board-Specific Expertise

We don't teach A Level in general — we teach Cambridge, Edexcel, AQA, or OCR specifically. The differences matter enormously.

0

Subject Specialists

Every subject is taught by a tutor whose primary expertise is that subject — not a generalist covering multiple disciplines.

0

University Entry Focused

We always keep the university entry requirement in view — every session builds toward the grades the student needs for their target course.

0

Early Start, Steady Progress

Starting in Year 1 of A Levels — not cramming in Year 2 — is what makes the difference between a B and an A*.
