What is AP?

College-Level Courses — Taken in High School

Advanced Placement (AP) is a programme administered by College Board that allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn college credit through standardised exams. A score of 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam can translate directly into university credit — meaning students can enter college already ahead, or use AP scores to demonstrate academic rigour to admissions committees.

AP is particularly important for students applying to US universities, where a strong AP course list signals academic seriousness. Many top US colleges expect applicants from schools that offer APs to have taken the most challenging courses available — and a 5 on an AP exam is one of the clearest signals an admissions committee can receive.

At IB Curriculum Academy, our AP tutoring is designed around one objective: getting students to a 4 or 5. Every session is built around the actual AP exam structure, free-response question types, and College Board scoring rubrics.

"A score of 5 on an AP exam is not just a number. For US university admissions, it is a signal that a student can perform at a genuinely college-level standard."

Our AP Teaching Approach

Built to Get Students to a 4 or 5

Every AP subject has a specific exam structure — multiple-choice patterns, free-response question types, and scoring rubrics that reward particular ways of thinking and writing. Our AP tutoring is built entirely around these structures. We do not teach AP as a general subject — we teach each AP exam as a specific challenge with a specific solution.

Concept Mastery

Deep understanding of every topic in the AP curriculum — not surface-level memorisation.

FRQ Technique

Free-Response Question training using the actual College Board rubric — the most high-impact skill for score improvement.

Full Practice Exams

Complete AP practice exams under timed conditions, scored and analysed section by section.

MCQ Strategy

Multiple-choice question strategies, elimination techniques, and timing — maximising the MC section score.

Why IB Curriculum Academy for AP

What Makes Our AP Tutoring Different

0

AP Exam Specialists

Our tutors know the College Board rubrics, free-response scoring guidelines, and MCQ patterns for each AP subject specifically — not generically.

0

FRQ-Focused Teaching

The free-response section is where most students lose points. We dedicate specific time to FRQ technique — the highest-leverage improvement available in any AP exam.

0

Aligned with US University Goals

Our AP tutoring is connected to the college application picture — we understand how AP scores are read by admissions committees and advise accordingly.

0

Early and Consistent Preparation

Students who start AP tutoring early and practise consistently achieve significantly higher scores than those who cram in the final weeks before the May exams.
